flat foot correctionFlat feet (also called pes planus or fallen arches) is a medical condition in which the arch of the foot collapses, with the entire sole of the foot coming into complete or near complete contact with the floor when the person stands up.

Flatfeet is common and may occur when the arches don’t develop during childhood.  In some cases flatfeet may develop after an injury or from the wear and tear stresses of age.

In some cases flatfeet can contribute to problems in the ankles and knees due to the condition altering optimal alignment in the legs.


What are the signs and symptoms of flatfeet?

Some people have an uneven distribution of bodyweight and find that the heel or soles of their shoes wears out more rapidly.


Pain in:

Inner ankle (may be swelling)
Arch of the foot
The calf
The knee
The hip
The back

Pronation (leaning inward)

Stiffness in one or both feet.
